This is me in a small town along the east coast of Kenya. A ten-hour drive from the capital, where I live life with my love. Here, in this place out beyond the beaten path, I stumbled upon a monumental truth. The more you wander off, the more you are surrounded with less.
There is less ‘welfare, prosperity, and conventional form of well-being,’ one would say. But the ‘less off’ that I am talking about is less vapidness. Less pretentiousness. Less noise, within and without. There are fewer unnecessaries, so to speak.
But the really exceptional part of my truth is that the emptiness created by the absence of all those things becomes exactly the space within which more can be had. And I’m talking about the kind of more that truly fills your cup. More gratitude. More purpose. More silence, within and without.
What is the secret of living in awe? I won’t dare to claim I know the answer. Instead, I’ll share with you my hopeful guess— maybe the magic lies in simplicity. The simplicity that exists in the act of playing with nothing but the air in your longs while smiling ear to ear for free. Maybe, just maybe, this purest form is why we are actually here.
Who knows, though. Perhaps my words make little sense. If you made it this far, I hope you will also allow me the chance to elucidate the thoughts behind my awakening and share with you this collection of photographs that I’ve lovingly titled The Secret Lies In Simplicity.
A sincere thank you to all the heartwarming humans I met along the way. You’ve given me something of which words have trouble to describe, but I promise these pictures will try to share our secret with others. I am ever so grateful.
